Thanks to your generosity, we’re up to $6,350 in funds raised for Doc Holiday/Oakley, meaning that we have at least $6,000 to go! Can you help us with a $5 contribution to participate in our Dyson drawing? Or a tax-deductible donation?
Meanwhile, I asked my co-donor and our new team member Kelly Foss-Railsback to explain why she’d joined me in donating the Dyson and why she’s asking you to join us in helping to support Doc Holiday’s adopter. Join me in getting to know this rockstar a little better:
Hi, I’m Kelly Foss-Railsback - follower, donor, lover of all huskies. Some of you may know my story—I’ve been here since the beginning.
I found Jenni, and unknowingly Husky Halfway House, during a time when I was desperately searching social media for someone who understood huskies better than I did. I had just one—a 3-year-old who still acted like a wild puppy—and felt like I was in over my head. Then Jenni started showing up in my feed, surrounded by ten huskies. I figured, “This lady probably knows a thing or two.”
I started listening to her stories, soaking up her advice, and occasionally dropping her a question in the H3 comments. And honestly, she gave me the encouragement that I needed. I began donating to H3–money, food, supplies, wishlist items, and now a Dyson! I looked forward to seeing H3 pop up on my Facebook feed. It became a bright spot.
Then came 2022–and a tiny, 8-week-old, red husky puppy at H3 who needed to leave her momma at the same time as her sibling, so their mom wouldn’t have to go through that heartbreak over and over again…after having lost a pup at birth already. I saw Jenni’s post and pleaded with my husband to let me adopt her. I sat on our front porch, pouting, swearing it would be my birthday gift. Eventually…he caved. We named her Terra.
Jenni promised me, “If you need anything, I’m just a call away.” And she meant it.
When I visited the rescue to adopt Terra, I offered to help with a project. Less than six months later, I was back—this time, with my husband and a couple of employees from our plumbing company, installing a much needed drainage and septic system for the new dormitory building.
That’s when it happened again.
My adult son Brad—who had come with me to adopt Terra, and who designed the layout of the drainage and septic system—asked if Terra’s momma, Spirit, was still at the rescue. She was! Annabelle brought her out, and we hung out with her for a bit! Then Brad said something that hit me straight in the heart: “Mom, you have a wonderful home. You could give Spirit so much love in her senior years. You have to adopt her and take her home tomorrow when we finish this project.”
He knew I wouldn’t say no. And I knew that if I ever needed support, Jenni and her team would be there. Not in-your-face, but always available. Always there.
So, the next day, Spirit came home with us. Now, I have three huskies. Two of them came from H3. And yes, I’m still asking Jenni and the crew my random husky questions.
I’ve given a lot to H3 over the years. But I’ve received so much more—friendship, family, purpose, and a community that lifts each other up in the most incredible ways.
Right now, we need to be that community for Doc Holiday and his family.
We need to hit our goal—and we need your help to do it. Every donation, every share, every voice matters.
If you’ve ever been touched by a story like mine, or if you’ve felt the love this community gives, now’s the time to pay it forward.
Thank you for being part of this. We’re stronger together.
Sincerely,
Kelly
