That’s his “I told you so” smile.

He knew me. He knew me the moment I pulled up to the shelter and called out his name. He had been waiting, patiently.

He bounced up and down for a minute when we first set eyes on each other then he disappeared.

I thought that he had went into a space where I couldn’t see but he was just plopped down by the door just waiting for Liz to open it.

He knew why I was there. He knew me.

He knew them too.

I knew that he wouldn't need me for long and my heart burst when I saw it for my own eyes.

I looked at him, he looked at me and then they set their eyes on each other.

It was that very moment that we ALL knew that Cole was no longer halfway home.
