Ok, this is cool and not cool, all at the same time.
My feeling are sooo mixed! I know huskies and have worked with more than any musher has. Sorry, it’s true. . .
I just don’t think I can be convinced that the dogs are enjoying the brutality that is the Iditarod.
I do understand huskies need to pull and run distances and I am very intrigued by mushing, but I cannot get my head around the abuse that goes along with forcing a dog to compete beyond his or her true capabilities. I JUST CAN'T!
And truly there isn’t anything anyone will say that will convince me that the Iditarod isn’t abuse.
I didn’t say mushing I said the Iditarod itself.
So what do you think about the Iditarod? I'd like to hear your honest opinions. Maybe we can learn something about each other and maybe even raise some awareness of the issue.
ABUSE OR NOT ABUSE? COOL OR NOT COOL?
In the meantime, this Monopoly game was gifted to us to donate! The family that donated it bought it 20 years ago and had it in storage.
It’s so cool!! (The picture of all the huskies. I just wish it was for enjoyment and not forced.)
But man, I want to bang my head against the wall at what that event truly means for the dogs. Straight up abuse.
So tell me what you think. Cool or not cool?
And don’t forget to buy a ticket if you would like to own this game. (Unopened and still in box). You have a week, that’s it!
Here is the link!
Ps. Let’s have a respectful debate! No need to get childish and name call.
AND GO!
I have very little experience with mushing of any kind but the brief few times I have watched parts of this race it just does seem extraordinarily cruel to the dogs. I don't think any animal should be "used" beyond its capabilities and comfort for a human to win a prize. It feels like exploitation and is pretty gross really. Mushing is all good. The dogs love it and you can see that in dogs that are run for play, exercise, or even in light competition but the Iditarod just seems too much and horrible way to celebrate dogs who saved peoples lives.
I watched a competition on “Alaskan Frontier” not to long ago. They were showing all the Huskies that were being run. They were barefooted without paw protection and forced to run 8 hours, with the majority needing medical attention and having to be flown out of Nome, AK to Ankorage, AK. I have lived in AK and you would not believe how many Huskies are used and abused for this torture. I have seen it and I adore and love my Huskies that I have had since a child… these dogs are spectacular and THANK GOD for H3 and all involved!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
